Book & eBook Collection

Our book stock comprises over 5,500 print books and eBooks, covering a wide range of clinical subjects, professional development, and research needs. In addition, we offer a varied selection of fiction and general interest titles to support wellbeing and leisure reading.

You can explore all available titles by searching the library catalogue.

eBooks

We offer a wide range of eBooks that you can browse, read online, or download for offline use.

To access our eBooks, you will need an NHS OpenAthens account. If you do not already have an account, you will need to register before you can access the content.

You can find eBooks in two ways: through the library catalogue or directly via NHS OpenAthens

Finding eBooks via the Library Catalogue

  • Enter a book title or keyword into the catalogue search box.

  • If an eBook is available, it will appear in the search results.

  • Click on the record and select “Read me”.

  • You will then be prompted to sign in using your NHS OpenAthens username and password.

Accessing eBooks via NHS OpenAthens

  • Sign in to your NHS OpenAthens account.

  • Access eBooks directly through our available platforms: Kortext, EBSCO (Nursing), eBook Central, and Oxford Medicine Online.

  • Further details about each platform are provided below.

Wiley Collection

  • Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines – guide on psychotropic medication prescribing is available as an eBook, allowing quick access to up-to-date dosage recommendations, drug interactions, and monitoring advice.

  • Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures – provides step-by-step guidance on nursing procedures, infection control, and patient care techniques, enabling clinicians and students to consult the latest evidence-based practices.

Oxford Medicine Online

Oxford Medicine Online logo

Oxford Medicine Online provides access to hundreds of Oxford Handbooks, textbooks, and emergency care resources across a wide range of clinical specialties.

You can access Oxford Medicine Online directly via the link provided. If you are logged in on a Trust computer, you will be automatically authenticated.

If you are using a personal device or working from home, select 'Sign in through your institution' in the top right-hand corner, search for 'NHS in England', and sign in using your NHS OpenAthens username and password.

Kortext

Kortext eBooks logo

The Kortext collection includes key clinical texts alongside resources focusing on diversity, resilience, sustainability, and wellbeing.

To access Kortext, sign in to your NHS OpenAthens account. Under “My Resources”, select the link to Kortext eBooks, then click on the “Collections” tab to view the titles we subscribe to.

Alternatively, you can access Kortext directly and select 'Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust' as your institutional library. You will then be prompted to sign in using your NHS OpenAthens credentials.

Ebook Central

ProQuest Ebook Central logo

Ebook Central offers a broad collection of eBooks covering a wide range of health and clinical topics, suitable for healthcare professionals and students.

Featured titles include:

  • Dermatology Made Easy

  • Geriatric Medicine at a Glance

  • ABC of Sports & Exercise Medicine

  • Research Methods in Health

 

You can access Ebook Central directly and use the search bar to find eBooks by subject or title. Simply search and select, 'Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust', and sign in using your NHS OpenAthens username and password. 

Alternatively, sign in via your NHS OpenAthens account and access Ebook Central through the “My Resources” tab.

Print Collection

To borrow print books, you will need to join the library service.

Library members can borrow up to eight books at a time, subject to local service level agreements. Books are issued for an initial six-week loan period.

We also offer a varied fiction and general interest collection for leisure reading.

Older editions are withdrawn from stock at regular intervals and are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

We welcome suggestions for new titles. Please submit a request using the form provided or speak to a member of the library team.
